INTRODUCTION The history of NTUF is the continuation of progressive radical trade union traditions initiated by the anti colonial revolutionaries of early nineteenth century in colonial India. After the partition of India and inception of Pakistan as an independent country in 1947, the banner of progressive trade union traditions were carried-out by the Pakistan Trade Union Federation (PTUF) ,successor of All Indian Trade Union Congress in Pakistan which later fragmented due to state repression. The most vibrant part and ideological flag bearer of the progressive tradition is now the National Trade Union Federation (NTUF).
Mission:
The National Trade Union Federation (NTUF) was founded on October 1st, 1999 with 50 trade unions representing the workers of different sectors which include agriculture, automobile, ship building, electricians, textile, garments, leather, chemicals, food and beverages, services, local bodies, printing, processing, transport, meteorology, polyester fabric and allied industries. The federation is registered with the national industrial relation commission (NIRC) as a federation of national level, having its regional offices at Hub, Othal, Quetta, Multan, Lahore and head office at Karachi.
The aim and objects of the Federation shall be:-
<O> To organize, unite & Federate Trade Union of workmen through out Pakistan <O> To secure to member of the Federated Unions fair conditions of life and services. <O> To provide help and assistance in legal and other related matters of security of Employment to the members of Federated Unions. <O> To take measures to improve social, economical, educational, professional & civic condition members of Federation unions. <O> To cooperate, and assist any Trade Unions movement which has the objects of general advancement of the working class. <O> Generally to take measures to promote the aims and objects of the federation if decided by the central Executive committee of the Federation from time to time.
